What does it cost to provide health benefits to your employee?

Accordign to the Kaiser Family Foundation 57% of businesses offer health benefits to at least some of their employees and  62% of those workers are covered with an health insurance plan.

 According to a survey conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation from January through May 2013 the following was found regarding health insurance cost:

Single Coverage:  
- the average annual premiums for employer-sponsored health insurance was $5,884.00

- the premium for single coverage is 5% higher than the 2012 average premium

- for small businesses (3-199 workers) that offered insurance 32% of their employees paid 0% of the premiums, 44% paid >0-25% of the premiums, 20% paid >25-50% of the premiums and 4% paid more than 50% of the premiums.

Family Coverage:  
- the average annual premiums for employer-sponsored health insurance was $16,351.00

- the premium for family coverage is 4% higher than the 2012 average premium

- over the past 10 years the average premium for family coverage increased 80%

- for small businesses (3-199 workers) that offered insurance 14% of their employees paid 0% of the premiums, 27% paid >0-25% of the premiums, 28% paid >25-50% of the premiums and 31% paid more than 50% of the premiums.
