Windstorms are weather events that produce strong
winds and violent gusts that causes significant
property damage. They include events such as
Hurricanes, cyclones, hail, derechos and tornados.
They can be accompanied by very little or no precipitation.
Windstorm insurance will cover damages to the building
as well as to property inside the building that was damaged
as a result.
Windstorm insurance is a special kind of Property &
Casualty Insurance [or Commercial Building Insurance].
You can get windstorm insurance as a rider to your
Property & Casualty Insurance.
If you are the Property Owner contact your insurance
agent to get covered.
If you are a Renter it may be required in your lease
to get a commercial building insurance policy to cover your
business equipment, or you can get this coverage on your
own.
Windstorm/Hurricane insurance cost depends on factors
such as how close your building is to the coast line and
it's structural integrity. Taking protective measures
such as installing wind shutters on your doors and windows
can reduce your premium and deductible.
Windstorm insurance does not cover damage done by
water. Flood insurance covers that.
