Serving Size Proposal |

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is proposing a new
rule to update the serving size information on food labels.
|
The Fda assewrts that since establishing regulations on
serving size as required by the Nutrition Labeling and
Education Act (NLEA) in 1990, there have been developments
that compells them to re-evaluate their previous guidance
and make changes.

The
propose changes will include amending
the reference amount customarily consumed that are used to
determine serving sizes.
It will also amend some of the required procedures
used to determine serving sizes, proposes to amend the
definition of a single serving container, and will require
certain containers of foods to bear an additional column of
nutrition information in order to help consumers understand
the nutritional significance of consuming an entire
container of certain foods containing multiple servings.

businesses in the food industry.
