ACA Insurance Portal Opens To Small Businesses

The new health insurance portal for small businesses is now open to start accepting applications.  The site was delayed due to technical problems.

Currently, the site is only open to five states including Illinois, Delaware, New Jersey, Missouri and Ohio.

The site known as the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) offers insurance to employers with fewer than 50 full-time employees (FTE).  Small businesses can start using the site to buy insurance for 2015.

To calculate the number of hours worked by full-time employees both part-time and full-time employees must be taken into consideration.  Full-time employees are those who work 30 or more hours per week and part-time employees work fewer than 30 hours per week.  This FTE Calculator helps you determine what the number of full-time employees you have.

SHOP can be accessed by clicking here.  Starting November 15, 2014, small businesses will be able to apply for and enroll in 2015 SHOP coverage online.
