Restoring The Traditional Work Week

The House of Representatives is trying to restore the 40 hour work week.  Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) the definition of the work week was changed to 30 hours.  The 30 hour work week made it likely that more employers will be compelled to offer health care under the ACA to their employees.

H.R. 30 (the Save American Workers Act of 2015) was passed by the House of Representatives to change the definition of a work week back to 40 hours.  The bill is making its way to through the Senate.

The 30 hour work week negatively impacted small businesses that could least afford it.  As a result businesses pushed more employees into part-time positions in order to avoid meeting the threshold that would forced them to taking on the expense of offerign health care to their employees under the ACA.

If the bill becomes law it calls it will be applied to months beginning after December 31, 2013.
