Getting your products into retail
chain stores is a difficult and time consuming task that
requires a great deal of time, effort and some amount of
resources. The tips listed below are intended to help
you approach this task in the most effective way.
Demo The Product:
Product demonstration is a way to introduce customers to the
product in the hopes of getting them to purchase it.
You can offer to perform in-store demonstrations of your
product. Many retailers are willing to give you the
opportunity to so. Your demonstration should show how
the product would solve a problem rather than on the pure
technical aspects of how it works. Be prepared to
offer samples or give aways such as coupons. Almost
any product can be demonstrated. The question you have
to ask yourself is "if I show how this product works will
the person be convinced that it is a good product for them?
Meet Vendor Requirements:
You should make every attempt to
meet the vendor requirements of the retailer you want to
place your products with. You can learn of the
specirfic vendor requirements by visiting
their website. See a list of the
key vendor requirements.
Do Your Homework:
Do your homework to learn as much as
possible about the retailer. Visit the retail store
and observe what products are carried and how they are
placed on the shelves. Compare prices of similar
products. Check out the dimensions and packaging of
competitive products or similar products.
Work With Distributor That
Already Have Access:
Working with a
distributor that already have access to
the retail chain that you want to place your products with
will save you an enormous amount of time, effort and
resources. Also, some retailers will only allow
certain products in their stores through their already
established distributors. So, seek out a distributor
that has already done the leg work for you and work with
them to get your products into retail stores.
